I just wanted to message you with some feedback following the course you recently supported.

All of the emergency department trainees were very thankful, having some tissue to practice lateral canthotomy on seemed to be very valuable.

I also received an email from one of the senior registrars the week after. She was involved in admitting a major trauma, pedestrian child struck by a HGV.

The child had multiple injuries which included a retrobulbar haemorrhage on the right side and a compressed orbit. The trainee felt confident to perform a lateral canthotomy on the spot (which we had practised the week prior in the course), potentially saving the vision.

I reviewed the patient in paeds ICU and on the ward over the following week and they maintained excellent vision with no apparent compromise.

Thanks again for your support with ophthalmology and medical training in Wales.

It looks to have had a very positive outcome here in challenging circumstances.
