BSc, MRCP and FRCOphth

Mr Sharma qualified from St. Thomas’ Hospital, University of London and trained as a physician and ophthalmologist. He received higher specialist training in Birmingham, St. Thomas’ Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London and subspecialty training in vitreo-retinal surgery from Birmingham and St. Thomas’ Hospital. He has been working as a consultant at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre for 14 years covering all aspects of retinal surgery in adults and children.

He has run teaching courses in Ocular Trauma and developed techniques in the management of lens trauma, paedatric retinal surgery and aqueous misdirection in addition to general surgical retinal disorders and is an Honorary Consultant for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

As an expert witness in his field he regularly submits reports for the Court in personal injury and litigation claims and for the MDU. He has been instrumental in leading Sandwell and West Birmingham Trust towards a fully digital EPR and works closely with the Clinical Governance teams in ensuring doctors are aware of the legal pitfalls in their day to day practice.
